1. Pianos Become the Teeth – Keep You
Honestly I cannot get over how incredible this album is. The fact that this band isn’t bigger baffles me. I don’t think I’ve heard an album this honest since maybe Thursday’s Full Collapse. It’s just so damn powerful all the way through.
2. Weatherbox – Flies in All Directions
One of my favorite bands finally made a real rock album again. It’s not as great as I had hoped but there is still a lot here to enjoy.
3. Modern Baseball – You’re Gonna Miss It All
4. Nothing – Guilty of Everything
5. Prawn – Kingfisher
Dads – I’ll Be The Tornado
1. The Things We Think We’re Missing by Balance and Composure
I love hard driving rock and now that Mov Mou have moved on to new things this band has taken over that spot in my heart. No album has been listened to more in the past year than this one.
Listen to: Parachutes
2. Talon of the Hawk by The Front Bottoms
I had never heard of this band until Stef took me to see AGBPOL for my birthday and we decided to stick around and drink while this band played. For never hearing any of their songs, they blew me away. Fun live show and the crowd sung along to every word. It’s definitely reminiscent of some of my favorite older emo bands.
Listen to: Twin Sized Mattress

My Top 5 Albums of 2012:
5. Tie: Fun. – Some Nights / Passion Pit / Gossamer
Fun has some incredibly catchy tracks on but Passion Pit’s album is really just heads and tales better than Fun.’s. The only reason I am calling it a tie is because both have spent about the equal amount of time on my ears and both have great moments.
4. You Blew It! – Grow Up, Dude
Reminds me a lot of the first Thursday album. Very raw and emotional. Can listen to for hours.
3. Athletics – Who You Are Is Enough
Very engaging listen like all of Athletics material.
2. Circa Survie – Violent Waves
One of my favorite bands finally came back around to put out a great album.
1. From Indian Lakes – Able Bodies
This release could easily be numbers 1-5. I haven’t stopped listening to it since it came out. It’s just one of those perfect releases in my opinion. I might just turn it on right now.
5. Dance Gavin Dance – Downtown Battle Mountain II
Jonny Craig came back and continued to belt out his lungs and the musicianship is still top notch.
4. Weatherbox – Follow The Rattle Of The Afghan Guitar
This might be the closest we ever to American Art out of this band.
3. Lydia – Paint It Golden
Not as good and complex as Illuminate was but it’s still a great listen.
2. Thursday – No Devolucion
Leave it to Thursday, a band that changed my life when I was 16, to put out one of the best releases of the year. I haven’t been a huge fan of their last couple releases but this one is outstanding.
1. Moving Mountains – Waves
I don’t think I have listened to an album as much as this one. One of the best Rock n Roll albums ever made in my opinion.
I missed this pic in the last blog post.
Just look at that face…
Stef and I spent a good night out Friday night and went to see Moving Mountains. It was an enjoyable evening. First concert I’ve been to in a good while and it was fun to get to spend an evening away from the kids. Still feel like a boring old man though because my ears haven’t stopped ringing since…
